The WXEL board opposes the sale of the station to Classical South Florida.
What do you want to hear on the new WXEL 90.7 FM public broadcasting radio station?
The Boatrd feels that htdecision is best made by having a local peresence.
This is an ongoing situation
The station’s community advisory board is concerned with the recent sale of WXEL and its possible effect on local programming.
Barry University, the station’s owner since 1997, struck a deal to sell the station to Classical South Florida for $3.85.The WXEL advisory board is largely opposed to the sale because it believes local coverage could suffer given Classical South Florida’s run of nationally syndicated American Public Media-produced programs, said Pablo de Real, the community advisory board’s chair.
Current WXEL radio shows such as Florida Forum and other programs focusing on local news, politics, cultural and sporting events that supplement National Public Radio’s offerings are important and should be expanded, del Real said.
And we shall see….
